This Labor Day, remember dogs who “work” for our living

In honor of Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 6, Banfield would like to remember the hundreds of thousands of dogs who “work” as service dogs everyday in meaningful ways. According to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a dog is considered a “service dog” if it is has been “individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of a person with a disability.” Read more »

“Bark the Vote” for hospice patients and their Pets

Pepsi is sponsoring a national online grant competition called “Pepsi Refresh Project”. The Banfield Charitable Trust (BCT) was selected to compete for a $250,000 grant, which will fund Pet Peace of Mind (PPOM) programs at hospices across the country. Raising nearly $2,000 in online donations and more than $67,000 in monetary hospital donations nationwide, our fourth Season of Suppers campaign surpassed last year’s cash totals by 32 percent. This past Saturday, Banfield collected Pet food from fans as they entered the Portland Trail Blazers home basketball game. As we gear up for the holiday season, you can help feed the Pets of homebound seniors who are in need. Season of Suppers, now in its fourth year, was created with the realization that many seniors were sharing their once-daily delivered meal from Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA) with their Pets, compromising the nutrition of both. Banfield and its charitable arm, the Banfield Charitable Trust (BCT), partnered with MOWAA in 2006 to create the Season of Suppers campaign to fight senior and Pet hunger. In 2008, the campaign raised more than $42,000 and countless bags of food. The BCT is hoping to double monetary and food donations this year to fund or start up new Pet feeding programs for a record number of Pets. Read more »
