Celebrate 'Take Your Dog to Work Day' on Friday, June 26

On Friday, June 26, businesses around the country will participate in “Take Your Dog to Work Day,” a nationally celebrated holiday.

Here at the main campus of Portland-based Banfield, The Pet Hospital, we regularly welcome our associates’ dogs to our facility, provided that they meet a few basic guidelines.

The presence of dogs in our office – sometimes as many as 30 per day – not only serves as a significant morale booster, but supports our vision of strengthening the Pet-family bond. We also find that having Pets in the workplace increases associate morale, productivity, job performance and camaraderie.

If you plan to take your dog to work on June 26 (or on any other day), the following are a few recommendations from our doctors that can make Pets more comfortable in the office:

• Bring plastic bags for cleaning up after Pets
• A bed, blanket or towel for your Pet to lie on will make them more comfortable
• Pack a mini-meal and snacks, if appropriate
• Favorite toys are fun for Pets as long as they don’t have squeakers
• Bring a sturdy leash for walking and, if necessary, for confining your Pet to a desk area
• Pack bite-size treats to reward good behavior
• Always have a water bowl with fresh water available

We also recommend you remind that Pet owners leave behaviorally-challenged dogs— including overly-exuberant, timid and of course, aggressive dogs—at home, or take precautions to ensure that they don’t disrupt meetings or co-workers.
