Keeping your Pet flea and tick-free

At Banfield, we aim to educate Pet owners about how regular preventive care can help their Pets live longer, healthier lives. With the onset of spring-like weather (in certain areas of the country), the following information will keep your Pets healthy, happy and parasite free, especially during the coming months.

If your Pet is enrolled in one of our Optimum Wellness Plans, you can bring him/her in free of charge any time you have a health concern, whether you’re worried about its weight, or you think he/she has fleas or a tick.

Speaking of fleas and ticks, they aren’t merely a nuisance for you and your Pet. Untreated fleas can lead to other, serious medical problems, such as tapeworms, allergies, infections or anemia. Monthly flea and tick control products are a safe way to keep your Pets and family parasite-free. Ticks, which can carry Lyme disease, hide easily on Pets that can pick them up by walking through tall grass, pastures or wooded areas. Inspect your Pet’s skin and coat carefully after spending any time outdoors.

In addition to fleas and ticks, Pets can develop serious health problems from mosquitoes. In fact, Pets can become infected with life-threatening heartworm disease as a result of just one mosquito bite.

Contact your Banfield veterinarian about how you can best protect your Pet from parasites year-round through heartworm testing and monthly preventive medication.
