Student Rewards Examples
- Maureen Ostlund, DVM (Associate doctor at Banfield of Short Pump, Va.) received $10,000 in student rewards by completing two Student Job Programs, a 2-week externship and a 3-week externship as well as acting as a student ambassador for two years.
- Katie McQueen, DVM (Associate doctor, Banfield of Tulsa, OK) received $5,000 in student rewards by completing two student job programs. She received her money during her senior year via Smart Start!
- Robert Braquet, DVM (Associate doctor, Banfield of Metairie, LA) received $2,500 in student rewards for completing a four-week externship.
For every year that you are enrolled in school* in which you spend a minimum of 160 hours as a Banfield associate, you'll be eligible for an incremental $2,500 in compensation after you are hired as a full-time licensed Banfield veterinarian. And if you accrue 160 hours during all four calendar years while in school, you'll be eligible for the maximum incremental compensation of $10,000!
The typical student reward payout is between $5,000 and $7,500, and you may earn the hours you need to qualify by participating in any combination of the following activities:
- Student Job Program
- Externship Program: (Externships completed during your final academic school year - totaling 60-159 hours - are eligible for a "half-bonus" of $1,250)
- Working part time in a Banfield hospital
- Serving as a Student Ambassador

How would you like to start receiving a paycheck during your senior year?
We've developed a special new Smart Start Rewards program just for senior veterinary students. If you have completed 160 hours in a given calendar year in the student job program, externship program or as a student ambassador with Banfield during veterinary school, you are eligible to start receiving your Student Rewards earnings during your senior year of veterinary school.
By signing on now to join Banfield after graduation, you will be eligible to get paid your Student Rewards money during your senior year. You can sign on as early into your senior year as you wish, but no later than February of your graduation year.
